"Horton Hatches An Egg"

Reviewed by Ribbit:

Dr. Seuss once wrote a famous story about patience, loyalty and perseverance. It's called "Horton Hatches the Egg." It's about a lazy bird named Mayzie, who wants a break from sitting on her egg. One day Horton the elephant wanders by, and Mayzie asks him to take her place. At first Horton wonders how a huge elephant could sit on a tiny egg! But he agrees to help, and Mayzie takes off for a very long vacation.

With great perseverance, Horton cares for Mayzie's egg through rain and snow and the laughter of the other jungle beasts. He even protects the egg from a group of hunters, who capture Horton and take him on a trip around the world! Throughout it all, Horton declares his loyalty:

"I meant what I said
And I said what I meant ...
An elephant's faithful
One hundred per cent!"

Finally, Mayzie returns from her restful break to pick up her baby. But when it hatches, it has an elephant's ears, trunk and tail, just like Horton! So you see, hard work has its rewards!
